By March 25, 2015October 28th, 2022Albums-Personal

AlbumStory.

A commemorative journey that I valued and took for a great man to Singapore’s history… Our MM Lee Kuan Yew. There are just numerous thoughts and words of gratitude for him, especially upon watching the extensive archival videos of him fighting for Singapore’s founding years and how he had made hard decisions that have helped shaped the globally-prominent state that Singapore is today.

Though I didn’t have the privilege of getting the meet him in person in my lifetime, I did felt his ‘presence’ from our beautiful garden city that I see around me every day. For that, I took to myself to head down to the Parliament House after one of my corporate photoshoots, well knowing that the queue may take up at least 5-hours of queue time, given the updates on the online news.

I knew that if I don’t make this journey, I may not get to express my simple thoughts of gratitude to this Founding Father of my home. Well knowingly that my memory tends to fade with time, especially to the fondest memories of my life’s journies, I took to the effort of wanting to keep a visual reminder of what MM Lee has built, as well as the deep and unspoken love that we have for him, which is well expressed from the snaking queues that Singaporeans had lined up continuously, disregarding the number of hours we had to commit.

As I journeyed along with my 15-kg workbag, it was a somber moment as I looked around me through the eyes of my lens. With the long waits, these moments had been precious as it gave me some perspective of what Singapore has become over the years… A beautiful Metropolis… Reflections of the deep-down kampong spirit that we all have yearned for in recent years… To be seen with the great love by the locals who openly gave what they have, as well as stepped up to the occasion to help give out needy essentials to the people who queued in line… And lastly, to self-reflect on personal goals and whether some had been aligned to aid in the future building of dear Singapore.

The many other stories that have poured out in recent days of his passing since the 23rd March 2015 at 3:15am, have told of the tremendous effect his legacy has had on many, many individuals of all walks of life, from Singapore to the many corners of the globe.

His departure is a great loss to our nation and to the world at large. However, it has brought Singaporeans closer together and I would sincerely hope that his example of comrade-in-arms will shine through in the many forth-coming more years of successes of Singapore and that as proud Singaporeans because of MM Lee, that we will hold our heads up high and do our country proud and build a better Singapore than what she is today!

This is my small way of saying Thanks through these snapshots of my memories on this short journey with you.
