This week of sessions has been a series of great catchups, unexpected incidents, and grateful experiences!

Session Two was like any other for the many years I’ve covered for SMUX Skating where new bonds were made from new places explored together for dinner and casual conversations.

Unexpectedly, en-route to our next skating segment, I met with a totally unforeseen accident. Fell face flat on the rough walkway as I smacked into the bottom frame of a “street-display“. Got injured in a few places but totally broke my camera.

Giving thanks to the lovely SMUX Skater EXCO Ai Luan, who stayed on to tend to my open wounds, I got pretty disappointed with myself as I totally missed the “black-protrusion“, and the camera repairs is going to be substantial, given the multiple damages and past repair experiences. I made the mistake and just have to accept the consequences of footing the repair bill.

Taking an early leave, I left for home.

What was totally unexpected, was that I received a reach-out from a new SMUX Skater, whom I’ve met quite recently, who informed of their offer and intent to help me with a little on the repair costs. I was totally touched by their kind gesture and concern, and knowing it was my fault, I kindly declined and rather they save up for their next pair of personal skates.

Further story short, shortly after turning in my camera to the Canon service center, where the official quote was a significant-high SGD XXX as “impact-damages” had a 1.5x surcharge and excluded the service fees, I got a follow-up & unexpected surprise from the SMUX Skating EXCO.

I have transferred a decently significant SGD XXX from the SMUX Skaters, who took it upon themselves to help crowdfund and chipped in for my camera repairs.

I am sincerely grateful and was totally a loss of words for the gratitude for each and everyone who had helped to contribute to the donation! This is definitely the first crowdfunded donation I have received!

Admittedly from this, I was also taught a very important lesson about life, where it is always good to contribute, do good and give more to others, in any small or major way possible, without any expectation of returns. It is such deeds that in times of need, that often and thankfully, unexpected gifts may appear on your doorstep at a time when you may need it the most.

I’m sincerely thankful for all the great new friends I have made, juniors I’ve taught skating and the many photographs I’ve been given the privilege to capture all these 11 years with SMUX. Thank you for this wonderful gift you have provided for me and I’ve really grateful to have crossed our lives’ paths through SMUX!

To many more wonderful and beautiful memories together for the future! Thank you SMUX and the great skater community at large! Keep building the bonds and skate free!
