At Supernova, starringSMU’s Freshmen Orientation Camp, we will welcome our freshmen with a fun-filled two-day camp. Introducing freshmen to the SMU campus and culture will take place alongside the engendering of our mindset that ‘giving back is fun’, giving freshmen and facilitators a wholly novel and enjoyable experience.

Run a gauntlet of activities and have a bomb of a time. The bonds we will be building and the games we have been planning will help to foster the right culture and attitude for the rest of our events – caring and sharing with tonnes of fun!

In these two days, starringSMU'10 will explore the central areas of Singapore and formally acquaint freshmen with the campus grounds through games designed to build lasting memories and lasting bonds. Bring water, yourself and an open heart and prepare to have a blast of a time!

^{starringSMU'10} | SMU Car Foam Party

Event Dates: 24^th, 25^th Jul 2010

The SMU Car Foam Party has always been starringSMU’s signature event. By incorporating the ‘Fun’ factor into community service, the Car Foam Party, defies the traditional notion of community service.

The main beneficiary for this event would be the residents of ‘My Buona Vista Place’, a one-stop centre for social welfare programmes reaching out to over 20,000 residents in the estate. Funds will be raised through the washing of cars at Buona Vista, as well as Holland Village’s carparks by the participants of starringSMU.

The SMU Car Foam Party also serves as a great opportunity for members of the public to do their part for the community while experiencing the SMU spirit of fun and sharing.

^{starringSMU'10} | SMU Gives Back

Event Dates: 27^th, 29^th Jul 2010 & 3^rd, 5^th Aug 2010

The society is made up to an interlaced network of relationships between people. However, as people get so absorbed in their daily lives, the need to care for the less fortunate and life-challenged in our society is often neglected. Hence, SMU Gives Back aims to instill the virtue of giving back to society in the incoming batch of freshmen.

This year, in line with our tagline “Bonds We Build, Lives We Change”, we intend to reach out to a wider group of less fortunate, and in particular the disabled. SMU Gives Back will be working with several beneficiaries, over a spread of 4 separate days – 27th and 29th July, as well as 3rd and 5th August.

By providing the freshmen with the platform to directly interact with the disabled, starringSMU hopes that they will be able to better relate to the disabled community in our society and understand their hardships.

SMU Gives Back would be a mutually beneficial event, whereby the less fortunate are reaffirmed that they are not forgotten by society and the participants would be more appreciative of their many creature comforts as well as the blessed lives they lead.

^{starringSMU'10} | Faithfully Yours

Event Date: 7^th Aug 2010

Faithfully Yours is a fresh initiative launched in collaboration with Holland-Bukit Timah Group Representation Constituency (GRC), with an objective of fostering and rekindling love between couples.

Faithfully Yours is a meaningful event where married couples will come together to reaffirm their love for each other through the renewal of their wedding vows in the presence of a Justice of Peace. The participants of starringSMU will be taking the opportunity to give back to the community by assisting and managing this event, believing that a loving home starts with a loving couple.

Our aim is to create an avenue for wedded couples to reaffirm their love and commitment to each other, or even provide an opportunity for older couples who have never had the chance to hold a wedding ceremony experience one.

Through Faithfully Yours, we seek to raise awareness of the importance of marriage as an institution, and to inspire and rekindle the strength of bonded love in other couples.

The keynote event of Faithfully Yours would be our attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for “The largest wedding vow-renewal ceremony”.

To this effect, starringSMU’10 is targeting an involvement of 2010 wedded participants, as well as their guests, to celebrate this momentous event.

Event Date: 8^th Aug 2010

To round off our 10 days of events, starringSMU’10 will be hosting the STARlight* finale party – starting with a closing ceremony to thank everyone who has contributed in one way or another and leading straight into our final celebrations

Our arts and performance groups will keep you entertained through the night, so watch cool dances and listen to great music as we party on until the break of dawn!

STARlight* brings the journey of starringSMU’10 to a close, but the friendships and memories we make will go on and on and on!
