starringSMU'10 | SMU Gives Back
Event Dates: 27th, 29th Jul 2010 & 3rd, 5th Aug 2010
SMU Gives Back aims to instill the virtue of giving back to society in the incoming batch of freshmen. This year, in line with the theme of “Bonds We Build, Lives We Change”, starringSMU’10 intends to serve a wider group of the community, in particular reaching out to the disabled.
SMU Gives Back will be working with several beneficiaries such as the Christian Outreach to the Handicapped (COH), Association for Persons with Special Needs (APSN), Metta Welfare Association, Handicapped Welfare Association, the Society for the Physically Disabled and Association for Women’s Welfare Association over a spread of 4 separate days.
These dates will see student participants engaging in meaningful activities including bringing the beneficiaries out on excursions, house-visits, handicraft and befriending sessions. Many of the memories made then will form lasting impressions and strong friendships, for both the students and the beneficiaries.
By providing the freshmen with the platform to directly interact with the less fortunate, there will be better understanding and empathy for the disabled community and their hardships.
