AlbumStory.

Had a totally amazing time gathering at the very beautiful new SMU School Of Law, and sincerely thankful for being invited to the farewell ceremony of Professor Arnoud De Meyer!

Time passed by really quickly as I first saw him 8 years ago as he took over the new leadership as SMU President just 8 years ago from Professor Howard Hunter. Being the longest-serving SMU President, he has indeed surpassed many unexpected feats as he was constantly engaged with the student body, where his energies often surpassed many of the undergraduate youths who were many years his junior.

I had still remembered vividly my first impression of him as he waltzes into the arms of a Caderas Latinas performance challenge and gracefully led and danced salsa away during a performance night where he took time off to attend and support the arts fraternity. His generous smiles and warm attitude made him so welcoming to many of us.

Fast forward through the years as I’ve graduated and subsequently covered a number of SMU events as the official photographer, I have had many privileges of listening to his wonderful mind of discussions over various topics covering a wide range of current issues and was always deeply impressed by his insights. What was heartwarming was the fact that he often gestured to me and remembered me, despite being a photographer, a task that was often a subtle role during an event. His humble, down-to-earth and warm chats as we gathering during alumni events, made me felt sincerely thankful that he has come on board to serve as our SMU President all these years.

Though this ceremony signified the end of his tenure as our SMU President, I was glad to see the many lives he has touched, who turned up during this ceremony, in recognition of his contributions to SMU, as well as to Singapore’s educational society at large.

A great gathering as well with many peers alike, I was also glad to see familiar faces of 10 years past and be in such great company of conversations and laughter.

Thank you for a great night and a great job well done to all who have meticulously planned and successfully executed this event! A great job well done!

Though this night is not a night of Goodbyes as Prof. Arnoud will still be teaching at SMU, I will still hope that many others will be able to receive his wisdom and guidance as he continues his adventures in serving the student community! Stay young always Prof and hope to see you around!

P.S. Too bad I’ve brought the wrong lens around, but hope these little snapshots will stay true to the beautiful memories made throughout the night!
